ARTIST exploring beauty, energy, and justice in Minneapolis, MN

ARTIST STATEMENT:
I am a portrait artist and oil and watercolor painter. I want my artwork to awaken something primal, beautiful, and alive inside of viewers—to help them shake off the numbing effects of overwork, consumerism, cultural violence, exploitation, sexism, and White Supremacy. My use of bright color, vivid expression and energetic abstractions enliven daring and socially relevant subject matter. As my artistic career progresses, I take seriously my artistic and human responsibility to address relevant social issues of our time, and leave this world better than I found it: more beautiful, more just, and more cooperative with our Mother.ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: I grew up Mennonite in small-town Kansas, raised in the church choir singing and broadly in performing arts: voice, piano, cello, ballet, tap, jazz dance, theater, and musical theater. I continue to sing and act and dance, both professionally and purely for personal pleasure. I'm a single mother who has fully come into her own. During a striking turn of events during the pandemic, I decided to return to my roots as an artist, which I had primarily left during my married/family life. I'm finding the joy and energy of rejoining myself as an artist to be explosive. Come join me in the joy and creation! I'm attempting to live my absolute dreams of being a working artist, an artist activist, a gallery artist, an artist with residencies and grants so I may do meaningful artistic work within community. One dream that may yet play out is for me to take a year to create art, fronting a band, heal, swim in the ocean in either Costa Rica or Bali.
